I guess I'm just looking to ask what others have tried before putting their children on adderall. I am considering trying adderall. We have tried ritalin, ritalin sr, ritalin LA, concerta, and vynase. I have been research a few different ones and have an appointment with her psych but would like some opinions regarding adderall.
Adderal Is the first type of med my dD wa one. She did really well on it for two years and then she started acting really nervous and anxious. So the doctor took her off of it. She has now tried the concerta which didin't work at all. and we have now strarted Stratera today. I wish my daughter could have stayied on Adderal, Because she was doing so well. But it was having to many side effects. But it took two years before the side effects started. Good luck in deciding what to do. Melissamy daughter also did fairly well on Adderall, but the same thing after some time she did become more anxious and withdrawn. She tends to be anxious anyway, but it made it worse so she ahd to go off it. No toehr stimulant has yet worked without side efftecs for us. We are currently using Daytrana, semi succesfully and see the p-doc this week.My son (8yrs) started on adderall xr 10mg. He was on it a month and seemed to do fine. We had a doctor appointment last Thursday and the doctor upped it to 15mg. That was the worse thing he did. My son was a basket case for 4 days. Atleast on the weekend he was. He was in tears off and on all day. He is one to never cry. It tore me up seeing him like this. I liked it much better when he was on 10 mg. I could work with him if need be. But everyone is different. It's only going into the second month so I know it's to early to tell what's right for him. We tried Adderall first with my son (at age 5), and got results, but had to take him off it because he was picking at his lips and the skin around his nails constantly, and we also noticed he was blinking a lot more than normal (both stopped within 2 days of taking him off Adderall). Our doctor said that she had never heard those side effects before with Adderall, so it may just be him, but it was bad enough that he wasn't even able to write, because he'd put down his pencil to pick at his nails! He's never had any OCD like symptoms before or after Adderall.
