just a mom,
when ever we adjust the meds, our doctor just calls it into our pharmacy and I pick it up within hours. I wouldn't allow my son to go back to school to get in trouble the next day. You already know that he needs his meds adjusted. Whey does the doctor have to see you? Can't they just even mail you a presciption? We have even done that. I just hate to see your child go back to school and fail during the day in the teachers eyes and set him up for labeling from the other kids as well.
when we started the med process it took my son about 6 months to level off. We were upping the concerta dose. His teacher let us know when the days weren't great. We were fortunate that our doctor didn't make us wait and that the scripts were written ASAP so he could go back to school to see if this dose would make his day successful. Maybe ask your doctor at the appointment if going forward you can get the prescriptions sent via mail or called in to the pharmacy.
Best wishes!!
You sound like you are living my life a little over a year ago. I had all the same problems, even the eating. What a job it was to get him to eat just a few bites. And the bad dreams, the screaming in the middle of the night, and it took me hours to get him to sleep. It all started when he was a year old. He is now 7 and has been on Strattera for a year now. It took me several years and several doctors. Several told me that he had ADHD and I wouldn't believe them. His first year of school was a nightmare. I finally broken down and started with new doctors and took him to Childrens Hospital Research Center, once again I got the same answer ADHD. I started him on 18 mg for 2 wks and now he is on 25 mg and it has changed his life. He is now straight A student and is in the gifted program at school. We still have anger problems and he still doesn't eat but its not such a big ordeal to get him to eat some of his dinner. The last two weeks I have gotten calls from his teacher telling me that he won't sit in his chair, and is bothering other kids in the class, and has two children on the play ground. I made a call to his doctor this morning, we have appointment with him on Monday to adjust his meds. Just make sure you ask a lot of questions and do your own research on meds. Best of luck my son isnt on any meds yet, does he need to be dignoised with ADHD first before the drs will prescribe anythinkyes he does. Some pediatricians are diagnosing. My friend has her two daughters, 8 & 7 diagnosed by the ped. and on ritalin and doing quite well.
We went to a neuropsychologist for the diagnosis. it takes a number of hours and may take more than one visit then you wait for the test results. It is very thorough.
it will take some time finding the right med and dose so hang in there and come here to ask any questions.
Get this child a full psych work up. There could be any number of problems singular or combined. Once you get some answers and start down the road to lessening some of the struggles you're going to feel a LOT better.I would call you pediatrician and get referred to a pediatric neuropsychologist. They will be able to diagnose your son. He sounds like a candidate, but a doctor is better at that than just me, I am just a mother. I also think he will benefit from medication. So do some research on that department. My son is 10 and started meds at 6. He is doing awesome. We do everything under the doctors supervised care.
Best wishes, and come back and hang out here with us!! Go to the parents of children with adhd site as well. you will learn quite a bit and not feel so alone, like I used to!!
Regards!
