tart strterra 25 mg. at once or | ADHD Information

Can you start on straterra 25 mg at once or should it be ramped up? my 9 year old son was just given 25mg straterra today. he was on aderall xr 10mg but that didnt work for him. i have seen tons of posts on here that say it should be ramped up to the target level. i feel that our psych is a nut but he is the only one in our entire town and within 100 miles around.

my son is 9 years old and weighs 80 pounds. Any info would be so great. And also would love info. on any side effects you or your child have had while on straterra. Thank you all so much. I feel that you all know much more then our psych. He seems to hand out any med to anyone. grrrr. I hate all of this... oh well.

No!!!  My son started on 18 mg. and did not handle it well.  I was told here by edbson that it needs to be ramped up from 10.  My son is 8 and around 60 lbs.  His side effects were terrible, so this is something that shouldn't be messed with, especially since you have been concerned about medicating at all. 

Why don't they try something run-of-the-mill like a Ritalin med first?  I don't understand going straight to Strattera.
We also ramped up on it.  There were almost no side effects though.   I would listen to Edbson, ramp slowly from 10 mg, they have a ramp pack just for new patients I'm suprised your doc didn't give you one.[QUOTE=peacefulpisces]

Strat HAS to be started at 10mgs, and ramped SLOWLY to the target dose for weight, which in your Son's case woul be 43-64 mgs( 45-60 mgs). I do NOT recommend starting at 25 mgs, you WILL see mood swings, mood changes, etc. The reason for the ramp is accustom the body to the med, going to high, or too high too fast can also cause liver damage.
