gail 1968.  Thats great.  i just wanted to pick your brain.  i am having a hard time finding useful threads on vyvanse.  my 6 yo dd started vyvanse this weekend.  so far so very good, except with sleep.  do you find that your son has a hard time falling asleep?  if yes what did you do to help him? is this something that might pass?  and what time to you give him his meds?  i have started giving her them around 5:30 and then waking her up at 7.  but she was up most of the night last night, and although she is doing so much better in school, i know that too many nights like last night and that will change.  any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hey AZ,

My son seems to sense when he is going to have a hard time sleeping and he asks for melatonin. It has worked really well. Since you just started the Stim. it may take time for her to adjusted. When my son first started the stim. back in May (it was not vyvanse, but I don't think it would have mattered) he had a horrible time falling asleep. It got better with time and as I said we started the melatonin. Some people here use benedryl. I have not, but it seems to work for them.

Talk to your doctor and ask what are your options.

I know how troublesome the not enough sleep can be and it makes the adhd much worse.  Hang in there and good luck.

thanks gail,

i am hoping this to shall pass.  she was on focalin xr before, worked well but too short, and we were having to add it several times a day.  we have tried the melatonin but are considering benedryl.

thanks for the support.

Fantastic.  Keep the good news coming.

Hello everyone,

My son is a 9year old and has adhd and started taking meds last May. We have switched around alot and I think have finally found a good combo 30 mg of vyvanse and 5mg of abilify. He received a good behavior award with his report card.  He was so proud of himself and so was the rest of the family. He made  all A's and B's except in math. He made a C. Math is his hardest subject. We will keep plugging along and hopefully be able to raise the C to a B.

I thought I would share some good news with all of you. Report card time can be very stressful God knows!!!

Gail

Yay!! I share in your Joy!!

Make sure and give him lots and lots and lots of praise for this!! (and give yourself a nice pat on the back, too-we need it once in a while as well!)

that's wonderful to hear! Good for him

It is always good to hear when a child sees success.
