Thanks for the advice..
While it is a challenge, I will take it take it one day at a time. Though, the idea of giving him meds scares me, I know that parents who choose Meds, are doing the best for there children. Medicine will be a option that I will consider, it truly hurts my heart to see my child go through these challenges and if medicine can help in his treatment then that will be the way I will go.
We went through pretty much the same thing with our 7 yo ds. We were constantly in the daycare dealing with their complaints, and issues with the other parents. In kindergarten and Gr1, he spent more time in the office in the first few months than either of us did EVER. We really resisted the meds, but being on them has helped a lot, although he still has quite a few aggression/impulsivity issues. I had a meeting Monday at school, and the VP said he already had a bad rep. I am going to try to get him to a pediatrician who specializes in ADHD kids to see if a change in meds can give him even more improvement. I am also beginning to suspect he may have an SID issue.
I felt so bad that for a while it seemed that the only attention he got was bad. At least now, when he has good days he gets a lot of positive reinforcement from us and the school.
Oddly enough, while our son's is still having some really serious behavioural challenges, they do want to test him to see if he is gifted. If he is, it is possible the more challenging work will help him to focus more.
Good luck and remember you are your child's best advocate.
Hello Everyone,
Bklynmomof2, Russell Barkley's books are the best. His website gives a great deal of information and you can view his books there. Please keep in mind no one is happily giving their children medication. It is scary. There are so many success stories for children who are able to succeed with the hlep of proper medication. My daughter would not be where she is today if she did not take medication. I'm not saying it's been an easy road, but BOY would that road have been even bumpier without them.
gregsmom for SID I strongly recommend The Out of Sync Child by Carol Kranowitz if you have not already read it.
