Asperger’s? | ADHD Information

Anyone have an ADHD'er or non/ child with this or is familiar? My DD is going to be tested and I strongly suspect its Asperger's, maybe not even ADHD (after all of this we've been through this past year, and we are finally able to get her tested)- I was told by the school psychologist that she has a 'high likelihood of placing on the autism spectrum.' Just wondering if anyone here has a child with this or has ever mistaken Asperger's/autism traits for ADHD.

Why do you suspect aspbergers or autism? What are the signs? BETHANN39407.0252083333sure they can be confused, but generally one key trait of Aspergers is the SIGNIFICANT social issues. Quite often this is their main delay. If you Google Aspergers you can get a lot of infomration. Both people can have a lot of sensory issues so that is an overlap. Aspergers children generally talk very early on and very clearly, but without much emotion. What are the qualities that are concerning to the psych for Aspergers?

My son has ADHD, and I too thought it might be Asperberger's.  I was told some children with Autism have ADHD.  After much research, I took him to get a full neurological evaluation and it was determined he did not have any form of autism.  Just a language disorder.  He has trouble expressing his thoughts.  Speech therapy is helping him immensely with his communication.

Also, with ADHD, sometimes the child has trouble playing as they are not able to concentrate during play time and may forget rules of games kids are playing.  Thus, they might be socially immature or back away from kids when they didn't hear the rules of a game or what they are playing.

There isn't much difference in AD/HD with ODD and mild Aspergers. Some in medical feild think they may be the same. Both have broad array of behaviors and symtems. Proffesionals can more easily pigionhole a kid into AD/HD than Aspergers.  Our daughters evaluation could have gone either way. Scales for both are subjective. My son has ADHD but his psychiatrist thought it might also be Asperberger's in addition to the ADHD.  We jumped through all of the hoops to have him tested and the test results could have gone either way.  They weren't very concrete.  With funding in our state for home therapy for Autism being so low the dr thought tha the one that did the test left it so vague because of funding issues.  Needless to say it is still up in the air it may or may not be Asperberger's.  We continue to treat the ADHD but not the Asperberger's.
