Ritalin..not chewable? | ADHD Information

Bump....it is available in chewable, and liquid. Maybe not a brand name, but a generic Mehtylphenidate. I have heard several people say Ritalin comes in a chewable form. My son is currently on 2.5 mg (a 5 mg tablet split in half) tablet. He will soon be switching to a 5 mg dose of the short acting. He does not do well on any LA or XR. I called the pharmacist today at CVS and asked if it was available in a chewable. He said No. I asked if he meant period, not available anywhere? He said it is supplied only in a tablet or capsule. He said capsule could possible be sprinkled. We have sprinkled FocalinXR and Metadate before, but my son does better on the short acting. Any thoguhts? It would be very convenient to not have to swallow a tablet, he is only 5 , thanks.Yes it does come in a chewable or liquid the pharmacy just don't keep it on hand they have to order it. I had to do that with my son because he will not take pills what so ever. He's taking 5mg twice a day.  Its the generic brand called Mehtylphenidate as EDBSON said. I would ask another pharmacy that knows, because you can get it. Hope this helps. I have it in 2.5 mg. The pharmacist said she had never heard of it but then she was able to order it.  The bottle I have says "Methylin 2.5mg. chawable tab" on it.

Call another pharmacist.  I don't know where you live. Mine was filled at a Rite Aid.

As far as I know, short acting Ritalin is not available in a capsule.  Isn't it great that we have such helpful professionals?
