VyVanse @ Insomnia | ADHD Information

Share

All,

First real post here, but I'm hoping I can get some help.

I've been taking vyvanse 30mg for about 3 months now, all seemed good for the first few weeks, but now I'm having a real bad problem getting sleep.  This is now the 4th night I've been up.  Last Wed, Thurs and yesterday I did not get a wink.  I shut everything off, but nothing seems to work.  It's starting to get to me and my wife made mention to it today.  It makes the next day really tough with no rest.

Just wondering if any of you have heard of similar issues???

Thanks for your help.

Hi and welcome.

Insomnia is a potential side effect for all stimulant medications. It's worth a call to your doctor, some people add something for sleep, either prescription med or over the counter, like Benadryl (when needed) or melatonin. Others switch and try a different stimulant.

My daughter is on vyvanse, and i have insomnia.  what helps me is melatonin, but it has to be a specific brand or it doesn't work as well.  with my daughter i adjusted the time that she takes vyvanse in the morning.  i get her up around 5:15 give it to her and then let her sleep till 7.  i noticed that it is lasting till about 6 and she can still get to sleep by 10, before she would be up till 11 or 12.  she doesn't take melatonin on a regular basis, but i do give her a magnesium, calcium and b6 supliment around 9.  among other things they are supposed to aide in sleep.  i notice if i, or she, take too much melatonin we get to sleep faster but have a hard time staying asleep, also my daughter complains of nightmares.  and the benadryl makes me groggy in the morning.

Thanks for the reply.  I ended up going to Walgreens and picking up some Benadryl.  Though it took a hour to kick in, it did put me asleep.  I'm hoping my body can get past this phase, because this is the only negative side effect I've had.  I've actually become very productive while on this med.

Thanks again
