I think it is worth a try the ADHD has horrible effects sociably ...
I'm not sure if I understand your accusation in this statement.  Are you saying that you believe ADHDers have a poor social/communication skills?  I'm just wondering because I've been doing some independent research on personality types and profiling and I'm not sure that your statement holds true generally.

But if you were saying that it's the medicine that makes you insociable, I would certainly agree.  Sometimes I'm so hyperfocused on something I totally forget that there are other people in the room

i'm just wantin to know before i start my ritalin meds if it is good for improving social interaction? does it make you feel less impulsive about what to say? and less selfish in the social ring? i have these chronically and i pray to god ritalin will help me! i am having so much trouble with girlfriends, extreme lack of friends. and family. will ritalin help me engage in "normal" conversations with people, and i wont act wierd around them the whole time?? i find when a relationship ends for me i get extremely depressed, is that normal? can some one give me some honest and experienced advice?

Wildlad

I couldnt tell you if ritalin will help you with your social skills. One thing i do know is that what ever opinion others have about you is what you portrait to them. If you are honest and try to recognise when you need to take a step back then you cant go wrong. If people around don't understand that or give you a bad time for it then they are not worth knowing. Surround yourself with honest, understanding and true people thats where real friends come from. And in true ADHD fashion never be affraid to say sorry!!!! And i KNOW with your Irish charm and the quirkyness of ADHD there is a girlfriend not far away !!!!

Keep us posted and dont try to hard!!!

Wildlad.....once you are the right med at the right dose for you, you will be more focused and you will  think before you act thus creating much more socially appropriate behavior. Please be patient as it may take awhile before the most effective, theuraputic dose is achieved and also, counseling in combination with medication is extremely beneficial as you also need to address the issues of low self esteem and in doing so, you will realize your worth and potential. Medication will address the impulsivity factor but issues of low self esteem need to be addressed through cousneling and behavior modification. Good luck and keep us posted.

I think it is worth a try the ADHD has horrible effects sociably so the meds should help. Make sure you make sure that you are on the correct dose most of the time it needs to be adjusted.Ah tanx dansmum, but i really don't have any charm, no girl is bothered with me and i know that. But i do have this problem where i tend to hate society and i have this really bitter feeling towards people. It makes me feel really angry and depressed. I really feel depressed. SHould ritalin reduce my bitterness and help with my feelings of low self worth?Ritalin won't help the depression or anger. You'll either need another med, counceling or both to help with that.It seems to help you feel more confident - and socially this is very helpful!
