am hopeful with Strattera | ADHD Information

After giving Vyvanse 2 mos, my Dr and I have decided to return to Strattera.  We are not sure why it caused such high levels of anxiety(maybe hormones) and depression but the negatives far outweighed the benefits for me personally.  This time on the Strattera when I return to my target dose we are going to try splitting it Am and early PM to try to eliminate the fatigue and possibly better sustain the focus throughout the day since that was my reason for searching out a new med in the first place.

Does anyone know of any information about the effects of exercise and if the meds are metabolized more quickly when high intensity exercise is done by the patient?

I don't know the answer to the excercise question, although I'm sure some one does. As far as splitting the dose, that is what we are doing. We are currently at 18mg am and 18 mg afternoon/evening. EVERYTHING makes my daughter tired (she can sleep on a stimulant), but she's been fine. A little tired off and on the first few days when we started and when we up the dose, but nothing she couldnt tolerate. Very even keeled mood for us and anxiety is not increased like on stimulants, she says she feels great. School is parising her daily, I hope it's not a honeymoon phase .

Good luck, keep us posted.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that I can go back without any problems.  I'd rather be less focused and tired on Strattera, than be hyper-focused on my anxiety while taking Vyvanse does that make sense?

to those of us that have been there.............yes . My daughter also hyperfocuses and gets restless and anxious with stimulants. Truthfully, school is finding her more focused on the Strattera. I'm not sure if it's just because her anxiety is down, or we could never get to the right stim dose due to side effects. I'm just enjoying the good notes from school while we're getting them .

Congratulations Diane!  How is her appetite on the Strattera?

back to normal. She was never a big eater and after SO many meds, it's hard to know what's what. Stims kill it and the tricyclic antidepressants increase it. We are in the middle of those now so I assume this her normal . She is eating all three meals and snacking but not excessively like on the TCA's. Hi, for the weight of my daughter, which is 53 pounds; what would be the weight dosage rate again?  I can't remember but I'm thinking of giving my daughter a 10mg for the evening, she takes 25mg's but at 5pm this stuff does not do it's job as well.  Also is wearing off during the day.  The past week every afternoon she is having symptoms again.  Tossed a book in frustration at a student and it hit her in the head.

That is awesome! The tiredness side affect should go away after a month or so. Most of the side affects do.

Great news Diane!   It's really great that she is able to articulate how the med's make her feel.

Isn't this the 2nd time you guys tried Strattera?   Just curious what happened the first time.

BTW - we tried Daytrana for 3 days and gave up.   My daughter hated it.  She didn't like me waking her up to put it on it.  She prefers to take a pill.   She also didn't it worked as well but I thought she was less hyper and more even.   We are going back to Concerta and upping the dosage.

I hope it continues to work will for her and give her a big congrats for the great school work from all of here in cyberspace.

HorseMom39413.5896990741That's great news.  I hope it keeps getting better as you get to her target dose and have her on it for 6 weeks.  For us the lack of side effects has been great. The lack of side effects is the BIG plus. Its so encouraging that it should just keep getting better............we hope .

Hi everyone,

Just an update on our progress with Strattera. We are only on week 2, but seeing great success across the board. My daughter told me last week she really liked this medicine, it made her calm......and she is SO calm, but not zonked. She is quiet, but not out of it. SO much less silly. Focus is better, but I'm not saying miracle.....yet.....tics are GONE, completely gone, anxiety down.............do I dare be hopeful we are on the right path?

The best news of all just came in an email from school, about the terrific day she is having, working hard, very focused and did really well on 2 language assignments that she had done poorly on in the past.

She is eating well, sleeping fine, our only minor complaint is she is feeling tired off and on..............

My fingers are crossed.

25 is not that low, her dose would be about 28-29, thats the low end though, you could go up.
