Hi new to group just a short intro | ADHD Information

hi there rainbow

have a look at the marble system it seems to work for alot of issues and perhaps it will help your son.  maybe if he is able to calm down quicker then he gets a marble if he counts to ten and doesn't lose it then maybe three marbles and when he gets to an agreed amount then he can have a small treat that you think is ok for him.

don't know if that is of any help.  it is good just to let out your feelings sometime and to know that there are others in the same boat

catch you later

Maybe he needs a different med. Something to calm him more. I am not a doctor so I can't reccommend anything but that's who I would be talking to.

I also wonder if he could have any bipolar, maybe not.

Have you thought of reevaluating him, just to be sure?

The other thought is it could be time to increase his concerta. My son went up really quick with it and finally leveled off at 72mgs when he was just 7, however he lasted there until he was 10, then he just went up to 90 this past July.

Or like spamula said, it could be the med. Adderall did that to my son, but it was immediately, it never worked.

Just some ideas to consider!!

Oh and welcom, I came back to edit this post because I forgot to welcome you!! This is a great place!!

BETHANN39418.1322800926Maybe try another med. Strattera perhaps? Also, are you giving him Omega-3? You might want to read about the Eaton Hall study which showed reduced aggression after taking Omega-3.  http://www.prnewswire.co.uk/cgi/news/release?id=182885I agree with looking into a BP evaluation, and also possibly another med. Omega's are also good, at a therapeutic doseHow would I even go about even getting a Bi-polar evaluation? Can I just request it? You can probably ask your ped or psych for a refferal or call your insurance company and see if you can get a neuropsych eval. [QUOTE=BETHANN]

Yes I have often wondered if maybe bi-polar isnt and underlying issue as well. I have also talked with his doctor at the time the only evidence was at home so now it starting to show back up in his school so maybe they will do an increase in his medicine. I hope so cause he is so smart and bright. I would HATE to see this hold him back. Bi-polar is defintely something I have had an interest in , even when he got diagnosed with ADHD but when he got placed on medicine alot of it went away.  I know his bouts with depression and aggression and the way his moods can click and change are not right. Something is not all there.  I know even my doggies respond to him different when something is not out of sorts. Its like they know somethings a miss. He is great with the dogs and cat. He LOVES music. One of the reasons I wish I could get him a set of drums. He totally changes! He goes from this high strung cant sit still child and he will sit there and totally concentrate on everything he does. Oh yeah and HE ISNT BAD either lol. Seriously he isnt! Even if he was terrible it does something for him that he NEEDS. So I am hoping to be able to get him some for Christmas. Thanks for the welcome.

Hello my name is Jessica and I have a son Justin who is 6 yrs of age and was diagnosed as having ADHD with aggression over a year ago.  He does have and IEP with the school system he is and also is under OHI. He is back to having his extreme anger issues. He simply cannot control his temper at times. It can start with little things and work there way up. Such as the other day at school he spilled milk, had something taken from him then just a lil more and then he lost his cool. Some days I just dont know how to approach these and some days im just baffled. He is currently on two forms of medicine Clondine and Concerta. He was placed on those last year and alot of his aggression issues and ADHD symtoms were modified.  He has taking the same dosage for well over a year. He tries so hard to be good. He is very smart he has came along way. However with his recent displays of his ADHD and aggression he is starting to backtrack.  I am looking for any means and ideas to teaching him how to control his temper and express him correctly. He is such a bright and smart child. I do wish I could help him more throughly so he doesnt backtrack and learn how to manage alot of this. Hopefully through this forum I can learn more about ADHD, medicines and any possible information I can use , find , ect. If you read this thank you for taking the time and I look forward to talking with other parents, and persons dealing with ADHD themselves. Thank you, Jessica

Yes, request it from the pediatric neuropsych.

If you need help with it, call your pediatrician. They should have doctors to recommend and referral stuff.

Also call the insurance company and see who they have listed as in network doctors, and what they allow, etc!
