VALIDATION!!! | ADHD Information

Just wanted to thank everyone who encouraged me to keep going and push for help.

Yesterday was my FOURTH visit to the pediatrician to discuss my son's behavior. She started again with the usual comments: "spirited", "high energy", "typical 3-year old boy..." - and started to recommend yet another parenting class & book. I just about lost it!

I pulled out the journal that someone here suggested I start and began reading some of the incidents in the past few weeks. I started talking to her about what his teachers have observed. I started talking about his sleep habits and the fact that the benadryl she recommended actually makes him MORE hyper and crazy. I started telling her about the research I've done, the fact that we've already wasted 00 in therapy & "parent coaching" and how we've burned out the "parenting" section at the library. Nothing is working. I was a desperate woman, but this time, an EDUCATED desperate woman.

By the end, she got on her computer and got me a referral to see the behavioral PSYCHIATRIST in our health clinic! Said she didn't even want to bother going through the psychologist first and recommended an immediate evaluation for ADHD! I am SOOO happy that we may be on the road to some actual HELP!!!

Thanks to everyone here for support! It is really nice to hear from other parents who actually "get it"!!!

Now you can get an evaluation to determine what is going on and what options are available to help.

ADHD or not--mom's often know when something is wrong.

At least the psych can take a look and see if something's not going along as it should...congrats

Yeah!!! I know exactly how you feel. Now you can see the light at the end of the tunnell.

I know that you will have success at the psychiatrist and get much needed help there. Is this a pediatric psychiatrist?
