Vyvanse and excessive talking? | ADHD Information

Well my son has been on it for over 2 weeks and I have found a few side effects, which BTW have decreased immensley in the 2 weeks, but not excessive talking. We notice some defiance, some lethargy, and some appetite issues. The lethary has pretty much gone away, the definace is once in a while and he is 10 so that could account for that! As for appetite, he is hungry in the AM, and not much for lunch but about 3 his appetite picks up and he eats well till he goes to bed.

So far its working well. Got a very good report from the teacher this week and he is doing ALL his homework without any back talk!

I would give it at least two weeks, unless the side effects are severe.

GOOD LUCK!

Thanks for the input!  I'm so new to this and it's nice to have an idea of what lies ahead for my son.  Sunday was a much better day for him.  We had no issues whatsoever with talking too much, so I guess his body/mind just needs to adjust to the meds.  But boy was Saturday entertaining!  LOL  He did complain of a tummy ache late Sunday afternoon and didn't have much appetite at dinner, but he did eat.  We had spaghetti, and he doesn't care much for it so that could have been the problem.  Today is his first day at school on meds (3rd day taking them), and I'm really looking forward to the end of the day so I can see how things went.  I am new to ADHD and so I am trying to learn all I can to help my son.  My 6 yr old son was just diagnosed with ADHD and possible ODD last week (but he has shown symptoms since he was 2), and the Dr started us off with Vyvanse 30 mg and told us to start it on Saturday (which was today), so we can monitor him ourselves to see how he reacts to the meds.  Well, his problematic behaviors did greatly improve, but he talked excessively ALL DAY.  Not yelling, and not defiant, just CONSTANT conversation.  I even heard at least two dozen "Mama, I love you so much" accompanied with hugs.    But even when left in a room alone, he would talk to himself.  When I told him to pretend he was at school and to try and stay quiet to pay attention to a movie, he still couldn't keep quiet.  I know this was just his first day on the medication, and I do expect side effects, but this particular side effect was not mentioned to me.  He is not normally THIS talkative.  Has anyone else had this happen?  If so, does it go away after a few days on the medication?  I am going to give him another dose tomorrow and see if things have improved, but I appreciate any info from anyone that I can get.  I certainly can't expect this to help him at school if he can't keep quiet!
