Son Just Prescribed on Risperdal | ADHD Information

This topic was just discussed under the following link.  Risperdal is the same as Risperdone.  One is generic and the other is a drug company label.  I'm not sure which is which.

I think risperdal is used to relieve psychotic symptoms and bipolar disorder. It reduces symptoms of mania in bipolar. this is just a guess but maybe your doctor thinks that if the adhd meds aren't working maybe he's bipolar and he's trialing it a bit. That's just an idea ok. don't get me wrong. by the way the side effects are quiet

I'm quoting this:

Some people may develop side effects on risperidone such as extrapyramidal effects (restlessness, tremor, stiffness) or tardive dyskinesia (slow or jerky movements that one cannot control). These symptoms are likely to be less severe and occur less often than with the older antipsychotic medications (e.g.,: HaldolŽ [haloperidol], ProlixinŽ [fluphenazine], ThorazineŽ [chlorpromazine]). If you develop movements that you cannot control, call your healthcare provider immediately.

NOTE: I THINK RISPERDAL AND RISPERIDONE ARE THE SAME THING. LOOK I'M NOT SURE BUT LOOK INTO IT YOURSELF. K.

GOOD LUCK

My son was just prescribed Risperdal today.  I have a great deal of concern.  My son was diagnosed with ADHD in June.  He was on Ritalin and it worked for his behaviour, but not for his academics.  Just a month ago, the doctor precribed him Concerta (slow release).  Didn't do anything for him.  Now the doctor has just precribed him Risperdal.  Does anyone know about this drug.  What are the side effects and has it worked for them...
