Is Strattera the only non stimulant? | ADHD Information

my daughter also took tricyclic antidepressants with some success.  She took both Notriptyline and Desipramine. She did a little better on the Desipramine, but only because Nortriptiyline was sedating. Something like that could work to your benefit if you're having a lot of insomnia. Side effects on both were the sedating and weight gain. She needed the weight gain, we adjusted her dose to a high evening dose and small morning dose to help with daytime tiredness.

 

No, it is not, Wellbutrin is commonly used 3rd line med for ADHD, and so are some of the atypical anti psychotics, and they are not stimulants.

Wellbutrin helps with anxiety and depression also.

 

What dose od Strat was she taking? Was it ramped properly?

My daughter was taken off of Strattera becuase she was having a lot of anxiety and decreased appetite.  Now she can't sleep, on top of all the other ADD behaviors.  All I want to do is scream and cry becuase I can't get a break from it.  It is now 10:11 and she is still wide awake.  She refuses to sleep alone.  She is refusing to take her Melatonin.  Is there another non-stimulant we can try?  She is still having anxiety so I don't think the Strattera was the cause.  However, she seemed to have alot  of "evil" thoughts while on it, which is why I am hesistant to put her back on it.
