You mean your child is constipated?  I guess these med's effect a child differntly.  My daughter was on Strattera for a month and today is day one on Vyvanse, she has a stomachache because I just spoke to her at the sitters.  She says when she lays down, it feels worse. But I made her laugh and she said all she wanted to do all day is work work work, she told me how strange it was that she didn't even want to goof even a little bit.

Well stomach ache is a side effect of Vyvanse..Found this online..

In clinical studies, the most common side effects of Vyvanse were decreased appetite, difficulty falling asleep, stomachache, and irritability

So not sure why your md isnt taking him off to see if that helps. My son has been on it for 3 weeks and it is working well. He did have diaharrea and gas the first week but it went away.

Well not suggesting he shouldnt  go to the gastronologist, I think the vyvanse may be part of the problem. I work in the pharmacy field and have seen side effects show up , even after the patient has been on the meds for a while.

Well, the thing is, he started the Vyvanse before school even started, and it ws working well with very few side effects. Concerta didn't work out at all, but Vyvanse has been pretty good.

Suddenly, though, his grades and motivation started slipping and he stopped working hard and he has been having diarrhea a lot, nearly every day.

He also said he wanted off the Vyvanse (not sure why, as just a few weeks ago he was telling a teacher and his ped how wonderful it was).

He tends to still have trouble remembering and processing stuff, even on meds. That makes him depressed/upset with himself. And he says people should not like him just because he is calmer on meds, so he wants to be "himself" again. SIgh...he has been annoying and combative the past week or so, on and off meds.

The dr. today said that he most likely has IBB (Irritable Bowel) and he prescribed something and gave us some tips. He also is having a letter typed up for the school so ds won't be penalized for using the restroom (he had to be counted tardy the other day even though he wasn't--because he had to go right after the bell rang and the teacher said he could have gone before school).

I don't know what to think will happen next...besides report cards tomorrow!

My ds has been on Vyvanse for several months now and hasnt really had any problems until about a month ago. He started having a lot of stomach aches and often diarrhea. He has gas all the time. Now he is getting in trouble at school for having to go ("you should have gone between class" and so on and so forth)

He lost 8 lbs over these past few months, which isn't normal for a growing 14yo. However, he ped did point out that he was back on his normal growth curve--before taht, he was getting a little heavier than is normal for his growth pattern.

Tomorrow he is seeing a gastroenterologist at his ped's suggestion. Taking him off Vyvanse wasn't a consideration. I am mjuust wondering what else it could be. Ds requested to not take his pill today just to see how it goes. He got in trouble yesterday for having to use the restroom.
