My seven year old has developed a spining habit.  He spins all the time and gets very upset if he does'nt spin quit right.  It started when he was put on Concerta a few months ago and has become quite debiltating sometimes.  Im starting to get calls from his teacher now.  Does anyone know if this is due to Concerta or if it just a habit he'll out grow?    Thank's!!

not sure if it is the medication or not but my son has always done the spinning thing and he is now 10! My doctor told me its a self soothing thing he does! He only does it when he come off his meds and never at school. We do tell him to stop and i swear sometimes he doesnt even realize he is doing it!!

Maybe the concerta is not working? Because as I said before my son only does it when his meds wear off!

I hope he out grows it soon!

I spinned as a child. Of course, I was not diagnosed with ADHD until I was 15 so I was unmedicated. My son rocks, moves his head from side to side. When he was younger he would rock back and forth. His doctor also told me it was something he does to soothe himself. Thank you guys so much.  I won't worry so much.  I thought maybe it was early signs of OCD or something.  I'll keep an eye on it though.  When I was around 7 I started touching everything twice.  I couldn't close a door unless I touched it twice, but I grew out of it pretty quickly.  Thank's.I am also starting to think that maybe some of this could be childhood anxiety.  His father and I were divorced when he was 3 and now that he is older he's trying to put some family dynamics together.  I remaried 2 years ago and have a 1 year old with my new husband.  My 7 year old loves him to death but he still goes to his fathers house every other weekend (who has had 5 girlfriends live with him in the past 3 years).  Maybe my son is trying to pleas every one and is having some stress related behaviour.  Just a thought!

My son does spin.  He also rocks a lot when the meds are not completely in his system yet.  According to his teacher he rocks and falls out of this chair quite frequently in class!  (Pretty sad)

I thought that he might be falling out due to the fact that he is a good deal taller than his classmates and perhaps the little chairs in second grade are too small for him.  But now I do think it is med related.

My son has ADHD and spins all the time. He does not have OCD. I see him on the yard at school doing it more than at home but he still does it at 9 just less.
