...my dd (6th grade) has been dx with ADD inattentive since 2nd grade. We were doing the Feingold diet which worked pretty well for her but not for her ADHHHHD brother so now we are doing meds and no diet. She is on Daytreena since she can't swallow pills. Well, we forgot the patch a couple of days this week and she was all over the place. Not just inattentive but hyper too. I am guessing that without the patch the additives in the food really mess her up. I would like to get her back on the diet but it is so hard to do just one person in the family and she really has to want to do it at this point. I just wondered if your kids were worse without the meds than they were before they were on them or about the same. My ds (2nd grade) is about the same but maybe a little more hyper without the meds. (we forgot one Saturday)
thanks,
Feingold works well, but the entire family has to be on it, not just one person.
It sounds like the Daytrana is doing well at controlling her symptoms.
Last year my daughter was in a study at the University and they gave her the non-medication group which I loved for she had meds for 1st grade and they helped so I wanted to see how she would do. By October I had to demand moving her to the med group even with all the supports and lots of behavior mod she was very defiant and refused to do her work school was calling me weekly. Once she began the med group she was like night and day and was so much better so there is your answer. Some kids can do fine with behavior mod or other ways and some need combination both. My girl now has behavior mod as well as medication. Thanks for your input. It has shown me that she really does better with the patch. We only use it for school but occationally for a girl scout event on weekends.
