Problems with Peers | ADHD Information
I have a few questions I guess. First, my daughter has been on Vyvanse for 2 weeks now...the first week we gave her 15mg (half of the capsule) she did ok on it, a little sad, but better. Then we upped it to 3/4 of the capsule for about 4 days...again she did ok. Now we are on the full 30mg capsule and I am noticing that is is a little sad (wants to be alone more), but I am pretty sure that will go away. My problem is that the teacher has said she is doing well academically, but having trouble with her peers (yelling at them, tattling more and even poked one girl in the chest...my daughter is 7, not really the behavior you expect from a 7 year old). I don't want her to have problems with her peers and I am wondering if this is something that will go away. I have read a lot of these topics and it seems like so many people have kids that are on meds that make them these wonderful happy go lucky children and I wonder if I will get the little girl I know back after she is on the meds for awhile. Will her body adjust? She has only been on the full 30mg for 3 days...how long do I wait until I give up on this pill? We tried Medadate, but she was REALLY aggressive on it and my doctor is about to give up on us because that was the Ritalin family and this pill is the Adderall family and other than non stimulants we have nowhere else to go. We have an appointment with the doctor next week and I just don't know what to tell him anymore.
trying one med from each "family" of meds is certainly not time to give up. Each medication delivers differently and each person reacts differently to this. First I'd give the Vyvanse a couple of weeks. Your doctor should certainly not be ready to give up after trying 2 meds. If he is then you need a new doctor.
Also meds arent a magic pill that turn kids into happy go lucky perfect people. They just give them the ability to be able to focus and learn how to behave apporpriately and to attend for schoolwork. They still need to be taught. Some of the behaviors will need to be addressed. Believe me, my daughter has been on a million meds, and is now doing well in school too, but still very sweetly last night told me how she helped her sister byputting her toothpaste on her toothbrush for her and when I went in the bathroom, saw she put on something her sister hates the taste to.......just to annoy her........they're still kids......that said, if hse's aggressive on this also, it'll be worth trying something else.
