| New to ADHD/child looking for books | |||

Our son was dx recently w/ADHD (he's 5) and I'm looking for books that will give us, our family and our daycare provider some insight into the way ADHD kids think or books that give helpful info on how to deal & interact effectively with children with this condition. We've been doing a lot of research on the web but thought if we found something that was really good, we could have it as a hard copy to pass around so we all get the same info. I have found this site to be very helpful and full of info so this is where I'm turning to. Thanks in advance!! I'm surprised that no one responded thus far, but you may have scanned some of the other topics in this section and gotten your answer. In case you didn't: I started with several of the Mel Levine books such as Myth of Laziness. Also Halloway's Driven to Distraction. I also like Smart Kids with School Problems by P. Vail and "Right-brained child in a left-brained world"--which is discussed in another topic. There's a new book called "Proust and the Squid" which deals with learning to read and dyslexia. I also like "Your Child's Growing Mind", which is not specifically about adhd, but is a good intro to the phsyical development of a child's brain.Mel Levine books and they are good. I also liked "Right-Brained child in a left-brain world" I read parts of Barkley's book - Taking Charge of ADHD and didn't really like it. "10 Days to a Less Defiant Child" is a good one for the behavioral side of things. |
