Thanks for the feedback.  I will definitely be watching ds more closely for additional symptoms.

i beleve my dad has it, and i beleve my brother and I have it, now my oldest dd has it, i also have an aunt with 2 sons, 1 has adhd, the other add, i know other mom's wwho's 2 sons have adhd etc...... so yup siblings can get it!Hi - I was wondering how many kids with ADHD also have siblings with it.  My dd was just diagnosed last week and the psychologist said there is a strong chance that my son may end up having it also.  She is 6 and he is 4.  I hadn't really noticed any problems with him in the past, but today his teacher told me that he just would not listen to her and when she tried to talk to him he would not look directly at her even when she got down to his level and was trying to get him to look her in the eye so she would know she had his attention.  She said it was as though he couldn't/wouldn't focus.  I don't want to go overboard and go running to the psychologist with him immediately but am definitely going to keep a closer eye on him for any other symptoms.  Anyway, I was just wondering how many families have more than one child with the condition.

Only my youngest has ADHD, it is hereditary in some cases though. He may just be 4 and I wouldn't worry about it for a few years at least. Both of my boys have it -one is more severe though.  I'm going to get evaluated for it since I've come to the realization that I never finish anything. My husband agrees he probably has it but still functions fine.  I think the dog is OK though.

You are right to keep an eye on him.  I think it's something like a 30% chance the siblings will have it too.

But on the other hand, if you haven't had any problems don't worry about him.  It is normal for kids to avoid eye contact occassionally, especially if they're embarrassed or think they're getting in trouble.

In my family, both my brother and I have been diagnosed (as adults).  I strongly suspect our younger sister has it too- she blames her symptoms on "food allergies" (not diagnosed by an allergist) that are somehow corrected by taking the proper vitamins!?!   I gave up trying to figure her out years ago.

Only one of my kids has it though- I have 2.  My DD is only 7, so I guess there's always the possibility of things down the road, but she does her homework every day with my 5 daycare kids playing/running/fighting all around her with no problem, so either she has no problem focusing in a distracting environment or she's so smart that she doesn't have to think about her work.
