Daytrana Doses | ADHD Information
I definately agree w/Diane & edbson, see a child pshychiatrist either along with or instead of your Ped Doc. Being new to all of this, we were referred to a Ped Doc and went through the motions of trying meds (Daytrana is our 2nd one we've tried) and we still don't feel that we have it right. We finally got an appt w/a psychologist/psychiatrist combo so that we can continue w/meds (and hopefully find the right one) and also gain more knowledge and insight to how ADHD kids tick. We need help in better parenting skills with this chaotic life & are hoping that combo will better help us. I personally feel like "popping a pill" won't be the only fix, it's a change in how you manage things and learning how to work with your child who doesn't think in the same way we do. A Ped Doc (at least ours) doesn't go that deep into it. I agree with edbson. I would see psychiatrist to prescribe meds, especially in a child this young. As she states all meds are approved for 6 and up. Not that you cant or shouldnt medicate, just that I would see the most experienced, qualified person to prescribe meds. My daughter is 13 and used only 10mg of Daytrana, it's very difficult to know dose or proper med unitl you try it, unfortunately. My 4 year old son was diagnosed with ADHD. The Ped has recommended he try the Daytrana patch. Does anyone have their children on this? What is their dosage?
Our 5 year old was also recently diagnosed, he is at the lowest dosage 10 mg. We put in on around 7am and remove it about 5:30 each day
DD used it for over two years, the dosages available are 10mg, 15mg, 20mg and 30 mg. You won't know which is right for your child until you try it. Not all kids respond the same to every med, and many are on differnt doses.
I personally would not let a ped prescribe meds, they don't know enough about them and with your child being 4, and the meds not safe for kids under 6, I would definetely see a Psychiatrist. Maybe the one who diagnosed?
