I love this message board i come here everyday. everyone is so positive and helpful!! It really helps knowing there are so many people uot there who have the same concerns and questions, and people are willing to try to help them. I want to say thank youAS everyone said the meds are not a miracle cure and they still need help with behavior modification and life skills. If the meds are still not working well after 2 weeks I would call the doc and see what they say. Keep a journal of behaiviors and times so the doc better understands what is going on. The meds just allow them to slow down so they can learn and participate. If this isn't happeneing see your doc to help you!Be patient.  you may think the meds are "wonder drugs" but they aren't a "miracle cure" (if only!)We use our psychologist for discipline advice and he is very helpful. My 9 yr old has adhd just diagnosed last week. He is taking meds but still lying not doing what he is told etc. I am so confused everything i read about adhd says the child cant help it. I dont want to punish my child for something he cant help, but what do i do let him get away with everything? someone helpIs he in counseling also? Meds are not a "fix all behavior pill", kids also need counseling and possibly behavior therapy. have you taken any parenting classes or read any parenting books. there are some really good ones. Many people have great success with ograms marble system, or some version of it on this board. Like edbson says the meds wont make them listen, just give them ability to.he is in therapy, and counseling but like I said it is a recent diagnosis so we are just now getting the ball rolling on all of this. can anyone recommend any books on this? Thank you for your replies
