I believe katastrophee is correct.
I have been on generic dextroamphehtamine for almost three years.
Prior to that I had tried generic adderall (mixed amphetamine salt)
The two are very similar however not identical.
Specifically, Adderall XR is composed of the following proportions of active ingredients:
1/4 dextroamphetamine saccharate 1/4 dextroamphetamine sulfate 1/4 aspartate (racemic dextro/laevo-amphetamine) 1/4 sulfate (racemic dextro/laevo-amphetamine)These four salts are metabolized at different rates and possess diverse half lives, therefore resulting in a less dramatic onset and termination of therapeutic action; as compared to single salt amphetamine preparations.
Dextroamphetamine is a psychostimulant which produces increased wakefulness, energy and self-confidence in association with decreased fatigue and appetite. It is perhaps the archetypal psycho-stimulant, and drugs with similar psychoactive properties are often referred to as "amphetamine analogues", or described as having "amphetamine-like", or even "amphetaminergic" effects. Its stimulant properties are similar to those of methylphenidate and methamphetamine, though with a slower onset of action and a duration that lies somewhere between the two.[citation needed]
Dextroamphetamine is the dextrorotary stereoisomer of the amphetamine molecule, which can take two different forms. Other common names for dextroamphetamine include d-amphetamine, dexamphetamine, (S)-(+)-amphetamine, and brand names such as Dexedrine and Dextrostat. It is combined with racemic-amphetamine in the ADHD drug Adderall. It is the active metabolite of the recently introduced prodrug lisdexamfetamine, known by its brand name Vyvanse.
Basically, dexedrine is the core amphetamine on which adderall and some other medications are based.
Dexedrine is actually the true brand of dextroamphetamine. I think Adderall is a mixed amphetamine salt with more than just dex-amph...............?Is this the generic of Adderall? My 18 yr old son was on Adderall XR 30 mg for ADD, but didn't like the way it changed his personality (his words). It definitely "flattened" him, but did allow him to pay attention in school. However, according to this http://www.drug3k.com/drug/adderall-Xr-12335.htm, edbson is correct.
If I didn't have ADHD maybe I would have done more research before opening my mouth. Or, just not opened it all.
That said, maybe my medication is not doing all it could.
