Concerta and lethargy? | ADHD Information

This is good to hear. I think maybe being sick (and tired from the rigors of school and extra curricular activities) have had an affect. I called the doctor and she recommended watching him over the holiday break to see if he improves. Sickness seems to be making the rounds in our house (again and again), so I hope we are not getting sick again....My DS has been on Concerta since he was in first or second grade and I haven't seen any tiredness with it.you know, when my daughter started Daytrana she complained about tiredness during the day, it passes after a week or so, maybe just the body adjusting the new dose.I'm thinking of switching my son from Daytrana to Concerta as another mother told me it works better for her son.  My son seems like such a zombie on Daytrana at the lowest dose.  How do other people find Concerta?

My daughter is currently taking Concerta.   It works well for her.  We tried Daytrana for a few days and it wasn't right for us.  My daughter didn't like it and I didn't like the hassle of applying the patches.   We used the 10 mg patches and we were told this would be an increase in dosage from the 18 mg of Concerta she was on.   If your son's like a zombie because the dosage of Daytrana is too high, then perhaps 18 mg of Concerta might be something to try.

joejoesmom, like everything, everyone is different. My daughter was extremely anxious on Concerta. Made her tics WAY worse and she was picking and nervous. It's like everything some people LOVE it, for us, it was her worst med. If he is a zombie on Daytrana, I would change to something else though. My son is on concerta and was tired too.  He was not getting restful sleep at night (common side effect) so he takes .5mg of tenex before bed.  Now he sleeps well and isn't tired during the day. DD is doing well on 27mgs of Concerta, she decided to stop the Daytrana because of the kick time in the mornings. My 7 year old son is on 27mg of Concerta. It was increased about a month ago from 18mg. After increasing the dosage he had an upper respiratory illness and since then he seems very lethargic on the meds. When he gets home from school he complains of being tired and just wants to rest on the couch and read or watch TV. He has verbalized being tired to his teacher as well recently. On the weekends I sometimes skip meds to help his appetite, which is voracious when not on meds (otherwise he little to nothing when the meds are in effect). He also is much more active and animated on the weekends and not tired at all. Has anyone had similar experiences???I would give it a while, let him recover from being sick. DD is somtimes tired in the afternoons, especially when her allergies kick in.
