You might have the doc tell him that the new med is not expected to have any side effects and to work really well in school. It may be that he expected personality changes from things people have said and it be came self fulfilling. Expectations have a lot to do with the placebo effect of things, so take advantage of it. Placebo effect can make a person ignore small side effects or exagerate them.
vickie39439.5685763889My son has been refusing his Focalin XR for about 2 months now and has us all crazy. When you asked him he said he felt fine on it. he said he was normal and had no problems. NOW, he told me last night he didn't like it because it took his personality away and he felt like he was someone else. He did not want his personality to go away. He also said he has no appetite(funny thing is he ate more on the meds than off!)during school. I told him that was normal and he could make it up by eating a good breakfast a good dinner and a snack or 2 inbetween. That he felt satisfied with. Still doesn't want to try the meds, Said he would try something alternative depending on how big the pill was. Great. This kid id 9 and acts like a stinking teenager 1/2 the time and a 6 year old the other 1/2. What am I going to do with him? Rhetorical. Now we know!
