update on son not taking meds | ADHD Information

wow spamula, what great progress! This you can work with. At least now you can tell him you dont want him taking something that makes him feel a way he doesnt want or lie. As Jillette says, maybe now he will trust you enough to try something else if he feels he can talk to you about how he feels and can stop if he doesn't like it.

Appetite suppression and personality change were the main reasons my sons chose to discontinue Ritalin all those years ago.  It seems that boys haven't changed much in that respect.  Fortunately for you there are other med options that don't effect the appetite but may offer some benefits controling the ADD/ADHD symptoms.

Well he fessed up last night to the fact that he does not like the FocalinXR because it took his personality away and he didn't want to act like someone else. FINALLY! It sure took long enough for that to come out. He also didn't like the appetite suppression.spamula39439.2929050926That's great that he was finally able to tell you his feelings and reasons for what he is doing!  You can always talk to him down the road if he feels he needs the help to try another medication. We were supposed to start the Vyvance this weekend but Dad scheduled cub scouts the whole weekend(thanks). But I think next weekend is a three day one so that will help. I hope he is going to try them he swears if he can have chocolate milk he will. Ha, I won't be holding my breath.

Wow, that is great that you finally got an answer.  What did he mean when he said it took his personality away?

Are there other medications he can try?

I'm jumping for joy that your son figured this out and shared it with you! That really shows how much he's learning to solve problems and share his feelings and thoughts. It's like he's taking more responsibility for his own health care! I get so happy when I see my son do this too. I'm very happy for you! Happy New Year!

Having the H in hyperactive and an adhd Dad who's a goofball, makes Jakes personality unique. He wouln't wnt to lose his funny side and he does have one we just need top pull the H in a little and get some focus for school and he is pretty manageble. He has alot of friends at school ant until this year, 4th grade he hasn't showed as being any diffrerent form the other kids too much and he doesn't want to lose what he has.

That's why I think some kind of med is in order now before middle school when things can get much rougher.

Thanks DadinAkron, I am hoping he will try another med or two or twenty,LOL He has been really moody despite his zoloft lately all to be discussed at his next doctors appt. next week(the only problem is this guys is a clinical jerk and Jake won't talk to him)But I will I am not afraid of any Doctor out there bring it on!
