Hi there,
I just started my granddaughter on concerta also, 18 mg...as of Friday.....Didn't
want to start med. before the Holidays...so I could monitor her...must say
she seems to be doing great on it...not one issue....said Sat. had a slight
headache that soon passed.
She seems more calm and not disruptive the change is for the better....my question is does this medication
work right away?????? or is it this just something I am looking for to happen...I
didn't
want medication at all but it was a last resort.....but I am so relieved it is
working. How long before the full effects take place??? We have a follow up
app. in one month about med.
With stimulant medications, you usually know pretty quick if they are going to work or not. They don't need to build up in your system. With my daughter, it's a night and day difference that we noticed right away.
My 12 year old daughter was just dxed. She started taking Concerta yesterday.
She is on a synchronized skating team which requires much dicipline and focus and she thought that the medication helped her so much.
Lat night, she couldn't sleep until 3:00 am. She had taken the 18 mg of Concerta at 8:00 am. She is 85 pounds. The Dr. is away until after the holiday. Any advice?
Usually the sleep issues wear off in a week or two as they adjust to the med. 18mgs is an extremely small dose, and is not based on weight.
I say give it a week or so, or use melatonin, .33mgs to help her sleep
I agree melatonin is the best advice i can give, It has helped my son when on stims greatly. GNC has disolvable cherry of liquid and Kal brand has awesome disolvable lozenges that you can break(they are 5 mg) or give whole depending what works. It takes sleep time to 30-30 min ti get to sleep and he stays pretty good. Good LuckThanks for the advice. I called her Neurologist Monday.
They told me to discontinue until the Neurologist is back from vacation.
I will look into melatonin.
