[QUOTE=Nrsmamy]Has anyone tried Wellbutrin?  My son is 4 1/2 and we have had bad experiences with ritalin and now the strattera seems to not work very effectively...if it really ever did. He seems to have a lot of anxiety too.  I am almost thinking he has something else going on but am waiting the 6 months to get him in to be seen by the specialists at St. Joes.  From our own research my husband and I think that maybe an antidepressant would help...any thoughts? If the Strat is at the proper dose, and he has been taking it long enough it should be working well. What is his dose, weight?

I looked it up in the PDR and it had him at 45mg a day at 1.4mg/kg/day.  He was only taking 35.  I gave him 40..will do the same tomorrow and then the 45mg on day three.  That should be a sufficient ramping shouldn't it...it said to increase on day three.  I even saw a difference a little this evening after taking an extra 10 mg pill this afternoon.  We were at the store and he was ready to throw a huge meltdown fit and I told him his behavior was not ok, that I would have to put him in time out right here where all these people would have to watch him.  He ACTUALLY stopped, thought, and then quietly walked next to the cart like he wouldn't have EVER considered making such a scene.  It was priceless...maybe a coincidence.  *shrug* but I'll take it!

I am "unofficionally diagnosed but know that I am ADHD".  In the past, I was put on Wellbutrin to help quit smoking and fight off depression.  The major thing that I noticed was that I didn't mind hugging people.  I am thinking that I may want to go on the drug again.  Hugging family at Christmas was just too much.  I did feel happier on Wellbutrin.  Thanks for the reminder that I may need to look into it again.

I always say, "better living through pharmaseuticals!"  I was put on prozac for post partem depression and realized that there were so many issues I had prebaby that were significantly improved once I started the prozac.  It's kinda funny how we sometimes fall backasswards into something that might help us. : )
My son 9, wont take adhd meds but he did agree to Zoloft for his anxiety( it is bad). He is like a different boy, people have been calling me and telling me how wonderful he is and socialable. It has done wonders for my son but I do not think any of the anti-depressants are reccomended for that age are they? I would be interested.Wellbutrin is approved for ADHD and it is an anti-depressant anti anxiety so it would make sense.

There arn't any medications for ADHD, antidepressant or any other, with significant studies to back them on kids younger than school age.  However, they are used with younger kids by docs all the time.  I wish they would do some studies in younger children.  I would volunteer us for one if they did one.  My boy is only 4 1/2 but was obviously born the way he is now and will be when he's school age.  I think the side effects are greater the younger they are..that is what I've read anyway.
