well as long as it's adhd for definate that is a start. you see, a child with adhd may have extreme difficulty getting on with other children. His attention span might be causing a problem since adhd children are hyper and can't relate to other kids properly. I know that when i was young i was chased by my class at 5, and they used to pick on me. I don't know what i did, but they just didn't like me. I was probably annoying them or something. I probably didn't have the attention span to play with other kids and too high of an energy level to actually be like them. I probably pushed them and stuff. Although I remember there was this girl who I used to hang around with and I used to run away from her when she wanted to hug me! lol I used to say she was my girlfriend I was only 5.
The main thing is bkrsen is, your son is probably like i was, he's just too hyper and innattentive to get along with other kids properly, that's part of adhd only. He's probably been isolated because of the way he acts as a result of adhd. If he really only shows the symptoms of poor social skills really that's mostly part of certain peoples adhd. I would not worry about it. I would reckon that it's just adhd and not asperegers Is he is chatty and lively with you and relatives? If so, it's probaly adhd and not aspergers, but if he's totally withdrawn with everyone including you, you should get him checked by a pro.
Good luck with it and all the best.
i also had a dificulty getting along with kids my age. when i was 12 i had a 18 year old friend and we were on the same terms. when i was in 2nd-3th grade i was tutoring half my class i was at a highschool reading level in 4th grade most kids with adhd if they are put in the right path of learing they can become great the problam with me was i read all the time and the teachers said that make the other kids feel they didnt have to do anything (i asked it didnt) when i was in middle school i got kicked out every year 2-4 weeks befor school ended and was always getting kicked out of class when i was on meds i was getting kicked more then when i was off of themWhat I have read is that ADHD is comorbid with Autistic spectrum disorders. Meaning a higher percentage of kids with ASD's also have ADD/ADHD. However ADD/ADHD is not on the Autistic spectrum.
The previous poster is correct in pointing out that ADHD causes social difficulties. I believe that an Asperger's child with ADD/HD would receive the usual treatment for their ADD/HD such as stimulant meds, but would need other specific treatments tailored to their Asperger's. Missing the Asperger's diagnosis would deprive them of these specific and important interventions. So you should try to get a full evaluation that either confirms or rules out the Asperger's diagnosis.

I have just finished reading a book titled "THE ADHD AUTISM CONNECTION" by Diane M Kennedy. She states that if you are looking for ADHD in a child with Autism you will find it , as the criteria for ADHD / Autism are similar. However, the treatments are different. I would urge you to look into this before your child starts schooling as the way he is taught will be very important. I do question this connection with my own 8yr old son there are some aspects of his behaviour that i can't put down to ADHD. I would be very interested to know if there are any other parents who feel the same way and is ADHD on the Autistic spectrum?
I have attached the link below as it may help!
