My son started with Focalin and was EXTREMELY depressed on that med. He went to vyvance (sp?) and fell into a depressed state where he slept all day long. Doc told us that it was likely all stimulant meds would make him reaact this way since we tried both molecular structures of stimulants. we're trying straterra now (week 3) with no positives yet but not supposed to see them for a few more weeks. no real negatives yet either. we're praying its the med for him!
does anyone else have kids who struggle with depression too? my son has 100 mg zoloft per day which has helped tremendously but he still deals with having problems with emotions and dealing with them. some sadness sometimes too. few friends.
DD had an appetite increase on Strat, the ONLY reason we stopped it. She gained alot of weight. OK the doc said to switch again. Now she wants to try strattera. I am not to sure about this at all. I've read some bad things about it, but so far nothing is working for us. We took my ds off the meds on Monday. Saturday I didn't give it to him because I thought it was making him much more angry and impulsive. So Sunday I gave it to him, so everyone could see what I was talking about (because they kept saying give it more time) and he was a zombie, and was so sad. So needless to say done with that too. I am just not sure if straterra is this right way to go. If he is aggressive on daytrana, and vyvanse, won't he be on strattera too. Because I have read that's a bad side effect on strattera. does anyone have any advice here? I need all the feed back I can get because I really don't want to give him this med. Help for a stressed out mommy. my daughter is doing very well on Strattera. She had side effects to all stimulants and I just had to take her off. We've finally given Strattera a solid shot and so far we're loving it...........no side effects AT all. We ramped slowly, increasing weekly and have been at target dose for about three weeks and seems good. We split our dose to try to gain 24 coverage and it is working well. She takes 2/3 of her dose when she gets up and the other 1/3 after school or dinner time..............Strat is a good med, as long as it is dosed properly and RAMPED. It HAS to be started at 10mgs, and ramped slowly to the target dose. Target dose 1.2-1.8mgs per kilo of body weight, no more no less. Do not expect to see instant results, you won't ! It takes 4-6 after reaching target to see maximum benefits.
