Ritalin vs. Methylin | ADHD Information
Okay, this may seem like a dumb question, but what is the difference, if any? Two weeks ago we called our ped asking for the short acting Ritalin to add to our son's Daytrana patch and Methylin 10mg (which we cut in half once a day in the morning) is what we got. This is all still new to me so I guess I assumed that Methylin is the generic form of Ritalin and didn't really question it. Now that I really don't notice a lot of difference in his behavior while taking it, I'm starting to question if they are one in the same? Also wondering if the generic version is less effective? At this point I have no faith in our ped and will not go back to him to find out the answers nor will I go back to him to make any changes to meds, we are waiting for our psych eval on the 16th to make any changes. But in the mean time, would like to know what we're really dealing with. I did some searches on the web, but couldn't really find info comparing the two. they are both methylphedinate. I have found this doesnt matter though, once you change the composittion it will react differently. Not saying any kind is better or worse than another, some people do better on one and not on the other. It doesnt really matter, if it's not working, it's not working and you should ask for something else, or to change the dose. They are the same thing, Methylin is the Generic name for Ritalin.
