Vyvanse update: he smiles! | ADHD Information

I am so happy for you. We just started Vyvanse and are waiting to get through the fatigue stage. My son is also underweight and I love that he came home from school today asking for Dunkin Donuts. You bring me hope!Well we got our Rx for Vyvance the doc says it is one of his favorites(whatever that means) I am looking forward to seeing my son smile as well as the Focalin was a disaster for us and turned him off to meds. He has now said he would try if he could drink it. Tell me more about this fatigue stage, I have a new thread started also.
aesposito, my daughter did the clearing of the throat clearing also on focalin and initially on the vyvanse she would also do this thing where she would whipe the sides of her mouth.  But not all the time.  she is only 6 so she couldn't really explain as to why she would do it.  but i think that the meds gives her cotton mouth (for lack of a better term.)  i keep her very well hydrated now, and it stopped.  when i stop "pushing" fluids they come back. she is picky so i do have to constantly give her water, sprite, chocolate milk, gatorade, etc, and for what ever 6yo reason she drinks more thru a straw, i even let her chew gum or suck on a mint or hard candy to keep her mouth moist.  it works for her.
Thanks, I'll try that!  I'm not sure if it will help the blowing thing... but it can't hurt.

Will was only tired for 1-2 days.

Now he's bouncing off the walls like a blooming idiot.  He is SUPER silly and is driving me crazy.  This is also day 4 for us.

I went ahead and called the dr because he did not do well in school today and hasn't been doing well at home.  He should be calling me any minute now that his office is closed.

I think 30mg is not enough for him so I'm thinking we'll go to 50mg.

I am so thankful to have such a caring, wonderful teacher.  She said she would continue to work with him, but if I can't stand being in the same room with him, I do not expect her to do it either.  He was much better on the Focalin,  but I'm not giving up yet.

WE ARE ONLY ON DAY 4. HOW LONG DOES THE SLUGGISH TIRED THING LAST?HE DOESNT WANT TO GO TO SCHOOL. I FEEL BAD FOR HIM BUT I DON'T KNOW IT HE IS SICK(HE HAS A FEVER) OR SIDE EFFECTS ANYWAY HE ATE TODAY NOT TOO BAD, ANY INFO WOULD BE APPECIATED ABOUT THE SIDE EFFECTS OF THIS MED. Another Vyvanse update:

Still doing great, rebound still much, much better.

And the ticcing remains, but it has lessened in recent days.  That may be his body getting used to the medication, or it may be his sisters getting on his case every time he does it (poor kid).  I'm not sure which.....

He has requested Melatonin for sleep a few times.  I suspect that's because the Vyvanse stays active in his body longer, even after we stop seeing the outward effects.

All in all, I'm still very happy with it.

aesposito39469.442025463Great to hear of your success. We tried Focalin xr and had no luck he was like a zombie and now I am going to ask the doc about vyvanse, I hope we find something that works without losing his personality and not too many side effects. We've been on Vyvanse for about a month now, 70 mg.  For the most part it's been a great experience.  It lasts about 10 hours, rebound is much, much, much better, and we are seeing a lot more of his real personality with it.  His writing in school has done a 360 turnaround... small, neat and readable.  His appetite is much better too.  And he smiles.  Real, live, bright, toothy, happy smiles... which he never did on the Focalin.

One bad point... he's been ticcing, which he did on the Focalin too.  Mostly blowing and throat-clearing.  Not often enough to hamper his life or annoy people, but often enough that we notice it.  And now that he's eating, he's growing taller and his clothes aren't fitting, LOL (he's very small for his age).

All in all, good stuff so far.
