How to obtain a diagnosis. | ADHD Information
After struggling with symptoms of ADHD my entire life, I have scheduled an appointment with my family physician this upcoming Thursday to obtain definitive diagnosis and hopefully begin some form of treatment. After perusing these forums, consulting with my sweet wife and taking several on line quizzes I'm fairly certain that I do have ADHD, possibly to a rather severe degree.
How do I talk to my doctor regarding these symptoms in a manner which will aid him in seeing the harm this condition has caused me? I would also like to get medication ASAP and am leaning twoard Daytrona 10mg as it has several qualities which I like.
I was there just a few short months ago. It's hard to talk about and when you've gone your whole life unaware of why you were so different you even question whether you're correct or not. I just laid it all out for my doc and explained my own research, symptoms, history etc. If that hadn't worked I would have looked for someone that would listen. But, I didn't have to - he listened and told me I would be amazed how many adults are in this type of situation. I'm in my late 30's and I guess ADD just wasn't something schools had on their radar in small towns when I was growing up.
Hope your visit went well!
Welcome geordiz, and happy new year! How'd it go yesterday at the doctor's office?
Generally doctors give referrals for screenings and will not prescribe anything until they know for sure and have proof in writing.
I've also found that it depends on the attitude of your primary care provider. If they believe in the diagnosis, great. If not, they make you feel like you're a drug seeker. Sadly, I moved from where I was originally diagnosed and have been shameful about the diagnosis when I come into contact with people who don't buy into adults having add. I wish you the best.
