Is there a maximum dose of stimulant (in this case concerta) that you are not supposed to exceed based on weight?? My dd has been taking concerta 54mg in the a.m. and a 10 mg of focalin in the afternoon. We have been pleased for the most part however she could use more of the concerta. Her psychiatrist says she can go to 72 mg of concerta but that is about her limit for the day based on her weight of 78lbs. so she could not take the focalin  in the afternoon. We really need the afternoon coverage. Does anybody else have kids on higher concerta dosages? or know about a max. limit? She really does not have any side effects currently.

Thanks!!!!!

Concerta is not dosed by weight, but by symptoms. Max dose is 72 mgs for anyone I believe. DD weighs roughly 100lbs and takes 27mgs.

The recomended daily limit for all methylphenidate meds is not to exceed 2mg/kg/day. This limit may be exceeded at the discression of the doctor in the normal practice of medicine. This is from the package insert for Concerta which can be found here:
