Medicated Madman and his AMAZING insight! | ADHD Information

That's an amazing insight from a 3 year old!

I don't get a ton of feedback from my 11 year old.  She is able to tell me when she doesn't like a med but I get very little feedback when I think something is working well.

I hope things continue to go well for your family.

that is wonderful. Very happy for you both. It got so much easier once my daughter could help explain how she feels.

Hi Joy! He was only 6 months old when we adopted him, so he did hear Spanish, but not enough to actually LEARN it. We do have him in Spanish camps during the summers, but can't squeeze it in during the school year with all of our other activities! I wish I could send him to bilingual school, but it's just not in our budget - especially now having to pay for all this therapy, medications, etc... I'm attending my first "Parenting Your ADHD Child" class on Saturday!

I'm just thrilled that HE is noticing the difference!

I am so proud for you and your boys.It is great when they can see for themselves the difference the meds make and it is a good change.  I have never had any problem ( cross fingers this lasts awhile) getting my son to take his meds.  He likes the way they make him feel.  Yay!!  I'm happy it's working out!!

Smart, smart kid.  What age was he when you adopted him?  Did he hear Spanish for a while first?  If so, double wow!

Maybe you just spared yourself 3 years of hell ....

We started Maddox on Dexadrine as a trial over the holiday break, just to see if it affects him and if it's something we want to try. You would not believe the difference! He went from this crazy twitchy lunatic to a calm, focused, polite little boy! It was apparent right from the first dose, but by the end of our first week, we were totally convinced.

He's now asking for the medicine. (He's 3-1/2) I asked him today how he feels when he's NOT on the medicine and he says (on his own, without prompting...): "like a freight train". I said, "So what does a freight train feel like?" And he says, "Fast and Bumpy".

So then I asked him how he feels when he's ON the medicine. He didn't answer for a while and I was asking questions - "like a car?" "like a bunny?" and he says "No, like a GLIDER"

I just cannot believe this amazing analogy came out of the mouth of a 3-year-old! I think I have a future novelist on my hands!
