my dd also steal's food from the kitchen, i have a lot of fruit and veg, she even eat's raw vegatables. If she could she would eat sugar and sweet's all the time,I have banned chocalte from the house, she will raid the fridge most night's,
I am glad i am not the only one, i have realised as well it the implusive in her ,
I think it is an impulse thing to, and DD has done this in the past. I don't have any "junk" food in the house, and it seems the thrill of stealing an apple or a carrot is just not there. Try not having the junk food snacks in the house, and I bet the thieving stops.
Is it just treats/sweets he's swiping? Mine does that too. I've recently moved all the junk food to a shelf so high that I have to stand on a chair to get to it- I figure I at least will hear him trying to get at it.
I think it has a lot to do with impulse control, but I also remember reading that the adhd brain uses up the sugar it gets more quickly than the typical brain. I've wondered if this helps to create the craving for sugar/simple carbs.
My son (9) is so bad that he actually tried to lick sugar off the shelf at the grocery store last week! No idea how to actually break the sugar addiction, aside from completely getting it out of the house, but that seems pointless as he can get it at school.
Is it normal for a child with ADHD to steal food. My child gets plenty of food so is in no way starved. Still, my son will swipe snacks from the pantry and eat them in secret in his room. I have tried locking the food up but I have a big family and to keep locking and unlocking all the time is a pain. It also seems unfair to deny my other children snacks just to stop his squirrel-like nature.Mine has done that before but not regularly. Not sure of his age, but is he bulimic? Addicted to food/OCD about it? I have heard from members of Overeaters Anonymous that hoarding food is something common for someone who has a fear of lack.

twirly139457.8662384259 my daughter has a bad habbit of stealing food from the kitchen..she raids the cupboard at least 4 times a week and the fridge as well..i never really picked up on the fact that it was her..i was blamming her father for eating the food and putting the empty packages back..thats is untill i finally broke down and cleaned her bedroom..i was shocked at what i found..there under her bed, desk and dresser were food wrappers and containers,,she denied it..even when i showed her what i found.. i tried hidding the snacks were she couldn't them but after awhile she found them..now i have to lock them up..other wise none of my children would have snacks for school......do your children steal anything else? my daughter will also steal money if it gets left on the counter. My son stole food regularly. I would find the wrappers under his bed also. I believe it is because when they are on stimulant meds for their ADHD it supresses their appetite during the day and when it wears off they are famished and will take anything- especially sweet things and icecream. I put together a group of food for him on a plate in the refrigerator that he could take if he woke up hungry but he still would take whatever he could find. I also locked the refrigerator!!I agree, both impulsive and starving.
Mine never stole food, we let him eat whatever since he had lost so much weight.
Now he is looking "normal" and eats normal, but not until after school is out. We also watch his calories due to not wanting him to gain.
We don't make a big deal over food because of the stimulants suppressing the appetite, and do not want to attact any eating disorders.
Both my ADHD and non ADHD child steals food. But it is there own house, so I don't consider it stealing. Some battles you can't win.DD has appetite increase on stims, so she tries to get food because she thinks she is starving all the time. We have no junk food, so her choices are pretty much carrots, celery or apples...not really anything to get excited over.
