Help -Tenex and omegas together? | ADHD Information
Question here about Tenex. My doc. just added in texex a half pill at night
before bedtime to help my son calm down and fall asleep. He is on Concerta
during the day. He has had such terrible rebounds at night so that is why
she added the tenex. My doc. has suggested that maybe we should drop the
concerta and just ry using tenex twice a day. She says some patients find
they get good results and no rebound affects. Has anyone tried this? Also
does tenex start working the first day or does it take a week or so? My son
seemed better last night and this morning a bit but nothing huge. He did
fall asleep a bit earlier but not by much. Before meds he was asleep by 8
p.m. since the Concerta it bumped up to 9:30 or 10:30. Last night was 9:15
so only slightly better.Tenex takes a few days to a week to begin working, it does NOTHING for focus but does help with impulsiveness do a degree. It is also not a stim med, it is a Blood Pressure med( the kind my grandmother takes).Like edbson said, Tenex does help with impulsivity and hyperactivity, but not attention. If your child has no attention problems, then you could try doing Tenex 2x/day and dropping the stimulant. My child takes guanfacine (generic for tenex) 2x/day and Metadate CD in the morning. That combo. has been working well for him.Yes, my son takes 1400 mg omega-3 and guanfacine. No problems. Doc recommended both.Omega's DO have a tendency to thin the blood a bit, so I would definetely ask before using it with ANY Blood Pressure meds. Since that is also what BP meds do sometimes.
My 9 year old son with ADHD/Asperger's currently takes Concerta and Tenex at 6:30 am and Clonidine at bedtime to sleep. I have been reading alot about the benefits of omega's for ADHD kids and wondered if any of you or your children take tenex or clonidine with omega's. I ordered omegabrite kids and would like my son to start taking it, but I am not sure it is safe. Please let me know about any info. you have regarding this.
we used Guanfacine and Omega's fine. I would always double check with your pharmacist, but I dont think Omega 3 alone would interact with anything.
