Strattera dose | ADHD Information

What would be the target range for my son who is 50 pounds?  For the last 2 months he has been taking 25 mg a day (it was ramped up from 18 mg).  He was doing really great, but the last week or so we have been seeing more temper tantrums. I am not sure if it is due to the medication of not. Today, his teacher called and said that she has seen great improvement int he mornings, but that for the last week he has been having issues in the afternoon.  After reading other posts on this website, I want to make sure he is at the correct target dose. Thanks in advance.

First of all, he should have started at 10 mgs, and ramped to target over the period of 2 weeks or so, not 2 months.  His target is between 26 and 40 mgs.

I would probably go to 30 mgs, almost in the middle of his target and see if he improves. It could take 3-4 weeks though, so be patient. He is probably acting out because his dose is a tiny bit low, and Strat is very sensitive.

When does he take it?

My daughter takes 54 mg and we split it 36 mg in the a.m. and 18 mg after school. By 2:00-3:00 she seems sort of off and getting silly. I like having the small after school dose. If it wasn't enough at school though, I would give her all of it in the morning.

He takes it in all in the morning. I will talk to my doctor about raising the dose. Thanks for the advice.
