My son who is almost 9 was diagnosed with ADHD last April & then our daughter who is 6 ½ was diagnosed in October. Our son had tried Adderall & he was terrible while on it. He had terrible mood swings & it was not pleasant to watch him on it. We then tried Daytrana for him & it has worked great for him. I wish he would have a little bit more pep during the day but he's not bad. So when our daughter was diagnosed we asked to have her put on Daytrana cuz we loved it for our son. I don't like it for her. She basically doesn’t eat while the patch is on. She has lost weight & looks way to thin. She has no personality when she has the patch on. She just keeps to herself which is not like her at all. I almost like her better with no meds at all, cuz honestly I loved how outgoing she was. I would just like her toned down a little bit but this patch has her like a little zombie & I don't like it. We have her on the lowest dosage there is, 10mg. I have talked to her Dr. & she gave me the name of some different meds we could try, but I have no idea which one to try on her. I just want her tamed down a little bit, cuz when she's not on the meds she is bouncing off the walls & talks a lot. The meds she suggested were Strattera, Vyvanse, Concerta, Focalin & Adderall. I didn't like my son on adderall so I don't think I will try that one. Can someone help me with the differences between these meds. Such as how soon they take effect to how long they last & what side effects there are to each. I am new to all this & just feel overwhelmed with the decision to change meds. I don't like the fact that they have to be on meds, it scares me as to whether the drugs could hurt them later on in life.
