This has been great for us... | ADHD Information

Thanks to Diane V. for recommending the Chewy tubes for my son. He has always been a chewer. Shirts, blankets, pencils, even his hands! Before he was diagnosed w/ ADHD combined type, he constantly needed to touch something or someone. I always thought he had sensory issues as well. The tubes have actually helped quite a bit at school, so I wanted to share this with everyone else. I will even include a paragraph from his teacher raving about them!

He has just been
great!  I think the combination of medicine and the chewy are really
working.  That thing is great!  Except for 4th grade buddy time last
Friday, he has never made a big deal about having it.  He sits at his
desk and picks it up when he needs it, and puts it down when he
doesn't.
I am very impressed with how well he is working with it.  He is
definitely more attentive, and it hasn't been a distraction to him,
me,
or anyone in class.  Last week was the only time he needed it somewhere
other than his desk.  During reading groups he started to get figity
and
was chewing on his pinkies, so I told him to go get it.  He did, and
the
rest of the center time went smoothly.

Tell me more about this chew thing........when I was a kid, I constantly chewed my hat, coat, leather bookmark, pencils, etc...etc....Is chewing ADHD? I still chew my nails...........

I am not sure if the chewing has anything to do with his ADHD, but it seems like some kids that have it, also have sensory issues.  This is the link that I found it on, but I actually bought mine on Ebay. There is a wonderful seller on there who only sells Chewy Tubes, and they offer frees  shipping. Try searching "Chewy Tube, Autism, Speech" to find them. They came new and in the package. They have been a godsend to us!
