Clonidin For ADHD | ADHD Information

Hi~

I'm just wondering if anyone else has ever heard of Clonidin oral or patch being used to treat ADHD. I read that it was used for it as an off- brand drug, but I'm curious if anyone else has heard this, what they think of it, ect.

Thanks!

My son's psychiatrist specifically said that it comes off when it comes in contact with water and must be replaced daily. Thanks for clearing that up!

Clonidine is used as a 3rd line med for ADHD, it is a Blood Pressure med.

I have never heard of the patch being used though, the dose is usually SO tiny the patch would be too much?

Yes, it comes in patch form. It comes off when swimming/sweating and needs to be applied daily. My son takes guanfacine, which is basically the same thing. I don't know about it being a third line med. It is working for my son. Personally, I think it helps the predominantly hyperactive/impulsive ADHD subtype, which may be difficult to differentiate from the combo type ADHD, if the hyperactivity is causing attention issues. So the patch for is not like Daytrana in the way that it stays on in showers and water?
