I SENT YOU A PM . SOME OF THESE THINGS GO AWAY AFTER TIME OR GET BETTER ESPECIALLY WITH VYVANSE. THIS IS ONLY OUR 2ND MED AND THE TIME HE IS ON IS GREAT BUT WE ARE HAVING THAT REBOUND ISSUE AS WELL I AM GOING TO GIVE IT SOME TIME AND SEE WHAT TRANSPIRES. IF HIS DAD WOULD JUST LEAVE HIM ALONE IT WOULD BE GREAT! BUT HE PICKS ON HIM AND JOKES AROUND EVEN THOUGH I TOLD HIM THAT REBOUND IS NOT THE TIME TO BE THROWING AROUNG AND JOKING. AHHH MEN. AHHH MEN WITH ADHDHe does very well while the medicine is in his system. I have even noticed that he is alot more loving with myself and his grandparents during that time. Don't get me wrong, he is not a violent child or anything of that nature. I started this process because his behavior was causing him to get into alot of trouble in school. I am still very new to this personally. My nephew is 15 and has been on ADHD meds since kindergarten but I never paid close attention to him and his reactions to the meds back then. I am still very confussed and kinda even scared about how all of this is going to effect my son's life.it sounds like rebound. This is really common and happens with kids when the meds are "coming out of their system". How is he while the meds are in his system? It may be worth trying another med. Just becasue this happens with the Vyvanse it doesnt mean it will happen with another stimulant.
I am just curious about other's experience with VyVanse. My 6 yr old son has just recently started it and I am not sure how I feel about the side-effects. He is in his 2nd month of the meds. Granted he is doing much better in school but I don't know if I can handle the way it makes him act when the meds start wearing off. He is very easily angered and irritated, to the point he sometimes breaks things without realizing it. Then he cries when he realizes he broke something he likes.
Well, as of yesterday, this is the right dose for us.. He had a great day at school, came home, almost NO fighting with his little brother, no arguments with us, struggled a little bit being able to fall asleep, but not as bad as I thought it might be.
My husband even commented last night that we had the quietest, most peaceful dinner in the LONGEST time.
I waited for the rebound but it never really happened.. I could tell he was starting to get a little too silly but by then, it was bedtime.
I would definitely call Jake's dr. I am so glad I did.
I am new to this. My 7.5 year old daughter has been diagnosed ADHD since this past summer. She is now taking Concerta 54mg for about a month already. She still is not focused in class and still does not complete school work on a timely fashion. Not to mention homework is another nightmare.
I'm an adult and my rebound was significant when I first started Adderall--cranky, impatient...worse than when I went unmedicated. But after a month or two the rebound lessened, and switching to extended release (Adderall XR) further diminished the rebound. Now that I've been on meds several years, I still get the rebound but it is a) mild and b) I'm used to it. So used to it that it's only if I stop and think, and then count the hours since my last dose, that I realize -- ah!! that's why I'm feeling this way! When you first start these medications, every med effect is "new" to your system and is a bit unsettling, so expect reactions to be strongest at the start. I too was "a lot more loving" when I first started the meds...writing notes to my wife, even some poems! Quite out of character, I must say! That phase too passed (but I think she still has some of the notes).
WE OPEN THE VYVANSE AND PUT IT INTO SPRITE. I GAVE MY 9 YEAR SON HIS CHOICE OF WHAT HE WANTED TO DRINK IT IN. HE IS ON DAY 5 AND FEELING A LITTLE BETTER. BUT THE REBOUNDS ARE STILL HARD. HOPEFULLY THAT WILL DECREASE OVER TIME I HAVE BEEN TOLD. I HOPE THAT IS TRUE
HE HAS BEEN A LITTLE DEVIL AROUND 4 EVERY DAY.Hismom -- Rebound is very hard to deal with in children, because, unlike adults, they really don't have the capacity to START a behavior like anger, frustration, irritability and all the other rebound symptoms, and realize what is causing it before they actually take action and lash out, melt down, or follow though. If Vyvance is what is working for him while he is on it, and it's working the best compared to the other medicines so far, I would think you should stick with it and give it some time to see if the rebound does improve for him.
Good luck with the Vyvance and finding help and support for the rebound symptoms, best wishes (I sent you a PM too)
Can the capsules be opened and put into food? I have a whole bottle of 70 mg that my older son doesn't want to take. What do you think?
The Vyvanse capsules can be opened and put into food, but it need to be IMMEDIATELY CONSUMED and not put aside or in the fridge for later. This what I've read in a booklet given to me by the Health place on campus at the university I go to. (I am on Vyvance 50mg) This is also what was printed in the little pamphlet that printed with the medicine at Walgreens, where I got my Rx. It shouldn't alter the med since it is only an active drug when consumed in the GI tract.
As for the 70mg bottle for your older son, are you asking opinions on using those for your younger son who is on 60mg, by opening them and giving him most of it but not all????
bpwife&mom?,
Will is 8.5 years old and started on 30mg 5 days ago. it did NOTHING for him and school wasn't a good day for him yesterday. So I called his dr and he said to try the 60mg, 2 pills, and today, so far, has been MUCH better. He got remarks for his sub at school, who said things like amazing and wonderful! he got in trouble once or twice, but that's fine with me.
I had the school nurse check in on him around noon and she said he was much calmer today but not drowsy or too calm.
He's been home for almost an hour and I can still tell it's in his system. I'm nervous about a rebound, but we'll just wait and see.
Will was on Focalin XR, 20 mg by 7am and 15mg at noon.
Hope that helps.
