Abruptly stopping Adderall after prolonged high dosage Adderall abuse results in extreme fatigue and mental depression. The most severe, though rare, Adderall side effects of Adderall abuse is psychosis. This Adderall abuse side effect is often clinically indistinguishable from schizophrenia.
From experience I can say that I took 20mg of Adderall XR everyday for 3 years then took a break for about six months (I was also on antidepressants that I didn't need {bad doctor that was a drug pusher} so I decided to stop all medications to clean out my system before going back on the adderall.

I was extremely tired and cranky for a couple months after stopping. Cranky since I had no relief from my ADHD symptoms and tired because of the withdrawal. I experienced some depression also but not sure if it was because of the withdrawal or because I was so unhappy that my ADHD symptoms were out of control again. The tiredness went away completely after a couple of months and as soon as I decided to go back on meds for ADHD the depression disappeared too.

As for what you can do, unfortunately not much. Be there if your friend needs support or feels like talking. You can also suggest they take B12, drink Orange juice, get calcium any vitamin that helps increase energy. Oh and try to make them eat healthy meals. Our eating habits are the worst when we are tired or depressed unfortunately those are the times that we need the most nutritional diet to keep going.

If your friend doesn't have to work or take care of a family I'd suggest just giving into the tired feelings and try to sleep as much as possible until the withdrawal symptoms disappear. The most comfortable way to get through any withdrawal is to sleep through it.

I have a friend that has been off of Adderall for a month now. I know excersize and a healthy diet help with the withdrawal symptoms. Herbal Pills? Any specific foods to eat/avoid? any other suggestions ? Thanks. . .
