Maybe she needs a change in meds all together? Try something different? We are in the same predicament right now w/our Dr. We're just in the beginning stage of seeing a child psychologist & child psychiatrist. Until now (for the last 3 months) have just dealt with a ped Dr that specializes in ADHD and he hasn't been very helpful, which is why we're trying the other route.
What kind of Dr are you dealing with? We feel like we've been our own Dr for at least the last 2 months, pretty much telling him what we want prescribed & what we want to try. Now that we've said that we don't feel like the med combo we're using is working, he just wants us to increase it, even though we've asked to try something else. We're hoping our appt at the psychiatrist will help but that's not for another 2 weeks. It is very hard to have patience, that's for sure. Hopefully your Dr will listen & be more helpful. Good luck!
What kind of Dr are you using? If not a Psychiatrist then i would highly suggest one.
Strattera is a non stimulant med and is lso a very good one,.for some people. I would suggest speaking to a Psych about it though, it does sound like another med is the answer.
I agree with the above posts that your best bet is with a psychiatrist. Some people will add something to help with sleep if they are truly happy with all other aspects of the medication. There are other choices though, many actually.
We are using Strattera, and as Edbson says it is non stimualnt. We have no eating or sleeping issues at all. My daughter is also not hyperactive and most of her issues are with focus and disorganization. For us, the Strattera is very helpful. Everyone is different, so there is no way to know how a med will work until you try it.
My son is on Vyvanse and has been on it for 6 months. We had terrible sleeping issues and eating issues on Adderal XR. The switch to vyvanse was a godsent for us. He started eating and sleeping regular hours. He is growing and gaining weight.
What time of the day are you giving her her meds? I try very hard to make sure it is around 7:00 am so that the meds are wearing off by early evening.
Sometimes the meds take a while to get right. We have been on 4 different ones over the last 6 years. He are taking the vyvanse and lamictal (mood stabilizer) which is working well right now. It can all change with a major growth spurt.
As far as the eating and weight issues, there are lots of threads on this forum dealing with it. I just make sure I have plenty of food available. He eats at odd times and will consume lots of food when he is hungry and then forget to eat all day. I provide him with high calorie foods because he burns them off so quickly.
What type of doctor are you seeing? Try to find one that specializes in treating ADHD children. We used the Pediatrician for the first 6 years, then switched when he entered into puberty. I wish we would have switched years ago.
