Hi Everyone,
I'm new to the ADHD forums, but have been reading them for a couple months. I'm a 24 year old female who's just started taking Vyvance 50mg for my ADD/ADHD.
A brief history -- I was diagnosed at 18/19 by accident while in divorce counselling when my parents split. (My county and state requires mandatory counselling when there are older children.) The running joke in my family when I was a kid was that "Miranda is so ADD" but no one ever addressed it or took it seriously because I did so well in school, and I didn't fit the current mold of the "student doing badly, acting up, rambunctious, rebellious." I was pretty good kid, although impulsive, a chatter-box, a terrible procrastinator, and the epitomy of disorganization.
I am now for the first time on Vyvanse 50 through my university. I've struggled along for years in college, being the stubborn person that I am, thinking that if I just tried harder, worked harder... you know how it goes.
I was wondering what types of side effects other young adults have had and how they are doing on this medicine. I've READ how it compares to other meds, Adderall, Concerta, Straterra, and I'm thinking this is the best for me, but I'd like to hear what others who've actually taken these other meds feel about it...
The only two side effects that I've experienced thus far, in any real way, is the terrible dry mouth, which I hear is normal for all the stimulants, and the complete and total loss of appetite. Has anyone else experienced any other moderate side effects? I've heard of others who experience headaches while "coming off" the medicine at the end of the day, but I haven't really experienced that one much...
Please reply if you are an adult on Vyvance, or are the parent of an older child on Vyvance, and have anything to share about your experience with it compared to other meds....
THANKS!!!
