In Pa we have what is called CHIPS program....If you don't have health benefits at work for child  under 18 can obtain it thru this program.   Not sure if its nationwide...

best thing is to call your Local Welfare and Social service and ask if they have this program...For working families that don't have health benefits...with a child.

It is income based.

There is CHIPS in TX, but you have to meet certain income requirements, and be at or almost at poverty level.

If he does qualify for TX chips it does cover meds, and mental health.

hello everyone, I am new to this site but need some help. My son moved in with his father last year he just turned 12 in dec 2007. I have to carry insurance on him so he can get his medication. My job does not offer health insurance and I am not sure where to go to find what I need. I have been on the internet trying to find affordable health coverage that includes mental services but all that I find are the ones that do not cover that.

He was on concerta for last couple of years now but it's very expensive, I pay around 0 a month just for the prescription and 70 for dr visits and dr has to see him once a month. I need this now, we keep getting calls from the school, teacher and priciple. since last school year he has not taken any pills, but we need to get him back on them right away before  he ends up failing 6th grade. Any help would be ghreatly appreciated!!!

What state are you in? In NJ , they have affordable health insurance for everyone. I think the smartest step would be to contact your social service office and explain that you have no health insurance for your son and what options are open to you. Buying it on your own is going to be VERY VERY expensive.
