Dizziness and ADHD | ADHD Information

Share
Driving with my dd this morning, I had an epiphany of sorts. Jillian, prior
to being dx'd and put on meds for ADHD, used to constantly complain,
"my head is dizzy, my head is dizzy." This happened mainly in the car,
and I chalked it up to car sickness. However, since she has been on her
meds, I have not heard that complaint. Could ADHD make a child's head
"dizzy"? She was only 4 and 5 at the time, so I'm thinking that's the only
word she could think of.

One more thing...a little brag. I got a note from her teacher the other day
that the PE teacher thinks Jillian is the most improved student (from last
year) in the whole school! (Her school goes from pre-k to grade 2.
Another building houses grades 3-5)   I was so glad to hear something
positive!

Awesome!!!

Before my daughter started meds (or when her meds arent working) she says her head is "spinny". We've teased out that she means rushing thoughts, and when she is truly dizzy (like shes sick) she says that is a different feeling.

My son is 5 and he always used to say he had the "crazies" and he would move his hands in a circle in front of his body.  He also used to have days that were really bad, with nonstop being in trouble, and on those days he would tell me that he couldn't be good today because he felt "all mixed up".  It's like he knew something was going on, but didn't know what.  I wonder if that same feeling is what your daughter is describing as being dizzy.

I will say that since we started the meds (granted for us it hasn't been all that long but still) he hasn't said it again.  Makes me wonder if they are aware of something that is going on in their bodies, but just can't describe it.

Congrats on the improvement at school!

Congrats on the note! Wonderfull!!!! It's so nice to hear such positive things and I bet your heart melted when you got that awesome letter!

My son, 7, said when he's not on his meds, he feels like a rocketship spining all over the place, up, down sideways all at once! He did mention dizzyness, but that was a side effect of Metadate ... which we stopped because he was also having halucinations.

yup, thats another one my daughter would say, she's all mixed up! I forgot about that one.Bless their little hearts. It can't be fun for them to feel this way. Thank
goodness that with the right meds, etc, they can feel better.

Thanks for your replies!
