New here - refered to a Neurologist? | ADHD Information

Some kids develop tics while on Stims, BUT some kids have underlying Tourettes that is exacerbated by the Stims. A neurologist could rule this out.

The doctor will probably not know if the tics are being caused by the stims or not. You will probably have to stop stims and see if they stop. My daughter suffers tics when on stimulants. She is now taking Strattera (which is non stimulant) and no tics. I would definitley take her to the ped neurologist to decide  how to proceed. They may choose to add another med to help with the tics, ot stop the stims and try something like Strattera. I would only tell her she is going to the doctor for a check up.

Thanks for the quick response! That's how I'm dealing with it. By telling myself that at least a Neurologist can at least rule out Tourettes or at least tell me if that's all it is.

Yesterday was horrible because I had 2 pushy friends wanting to give me advice on something they really don't know anything about. The one that I work with I couldn't avoid and had to deal with her telling me to take my daughter off the med's immediately and that I really don't know what the med's have done to my daughters brain! She's just one of those people who's not very tactful when they speak! LOL!

Anyway, thanks!

PS anyone eles who has seen a Neurologist please reply! :)

My daughter has been on Adderall then Focalin (spelling?) and now Daytrana patch because all of the med's are giving her tic's.

She has them all from eye blinking, eye movement, mouth movement (like she's popping her jaw) vocal with a jerky movement and without. Oh, and she's constantly licking her lips and they are sooo chapped!

After being observed by her home room teacher, several other teacher, the school counselor and now the school nurse, they are all very worried about her. The school nurse called me yesterday to tell me that the would like me to see if her ped will refere her to a Neurologist?

My question is, has anyone else had their ADHD child see a Neurologist for the tic's or for any other reason?

My daughter is about to be 9 and has been on med's since she was 6. The tic's didn't start till she started taking the ADHD med's.

I did already make her an appt to see a Ped Neurologist but don't really know what to expect let alone what to tell my daughter.

Any feed back this would be greatly appreciated!
