Anyone else have this happen? | ADHD Information

I believe ADHD diagnosis is real, but hard for me to imagine a 3 year old needing to be medicated already. My guess is that he is over medicated. Being 3 is about not listening and talking back and being hyper. My son just turned 3 last week. I watch out for the ADD and I wonder sometimes but again, he is just 3 and thats how they act.... like cute brats!!SPD's can show up as ADHD in young kids, it is likely he only has SPD's and NOT adhd.

We have been seeing a specialist for over a year about the problems that he was having. He has been tested for everything under the sun and all have come up negative. He is also seeing an OT for sensory processing disorder and the specailist thought that would help with the other issues but it didn't so it was just recently that the dr put him on meds. We have tried being firm wth him and there is no give. He is very stronged willed and no matter what type of displine we have tried or reinforcement we tried has worked. It just kept getting worse over the past 2 years. He has had problems since he was 3 months old, from sleeping, eatting and some development delays, and as he got older the hyperactivity, aggression and etc has gotten worse. We have an appointment with the specailist next week so hopefully we can get things on track where they need to be.

Metadate CD is a stimulant on the same level as Ritalin.

Thank you for your reply.

i have never heard of Metadate CD, so i cant say much about it, but I'm assuming it blocks Melatonin receptors?

Melantonin receptor? On what planet? Melantonin is a hormone.  Metadate is a stim medication.

I would suggest that the OP contact her child's doctor, stop the metadate for a day or two and see if his behavor changes.  Since the stim meds are out of one's system after the dosage duration[4hr or 10 hr] there should be no effects after 2 days without them.  Something else may be going on.

I would suggest a visit to a good ped neuropsychologist.

My son was diagnosed this past week with ADHD and was put on Metadate CD and melatonin, this first day he took the Metadate CD everything seemed fine, the hyperactivity was calmed down and he listened and played quietly. But everyday after that we have been noticing some different behavior such as, obsessiveness about bags and lining things up, rechecking himself over and over, aggression( hitting kicking and screaming), not very emotional other that aggression, sits by himself alot, doesn't take naps anymore and refuses to use the potty ( he's 3 and was starting before meds to use the potty), and doesn't play with his toys or others. I know that is alot but I found it strange that taking the hyperactivity away caused these behaviors. We have a call into the doctor and she is suppose to call back Monday, hopefully she can tell us something. I was just curious if anyone here had anything similar to this with their children.

Thank you and God Bless..
